Rewind to early 2020 and Gedling was ranked the 29th best place for quality of life UK and the 4th best in the East Midlands. Since then, locals think it’s gotten even better.
Historically, Gedling is a place with very low crime rates and a good range of affordable yet high-quality housing. It’s also a great place to raise a family because there are several top primary schools nearby. Most are rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, including All Hallows C of E Primary School, the best in the area.
The village is located just 4 miles away from Nottingham, so it’s only a short commute to the centre. On average, just 20 minutes in the car. It’s equally easy to escape to the countryside from Gedling. Gedling Country Park is close by and offers breathtaking views of Nottinghamshire plus the chance to spy Lincoln Cathedral in the distance. Although a small village, Gedling Road provides many convenience stores and places to eat out. Supermarkets are only a short drive or bus journey away.

Bramcote
One of Nottingham’s many cheerful suburbs, Bramcote sits atop hills just 5 miles south of Nottingham’s city centre. It has a great reputation for a reason. Here you’ll become accustomed to a peaceful and safe way of life in a desirable location.
Bramcote’s features are typical of the best places in Nottingham. There are several green spaces in the suburb as well as a golf course nearby. The area is well served by schools such as Bramcote College, a secondary school rated Good by Ofsted. Foxwood Academy Special School is another Good Ofsted school in the area. Further education is also available in the area via Bramcote College Sixth Form.
Bramcote has all the amenities you need, including a leisure centre, doctor’s surgery, and pubs. For a big shop, it’s a short trip to neighbouring Stapleford or Beeston for Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and other supermarkets.
It’s also a good area for commuters. You can easily join the A52, also known as Brian Clough Way, to merge into the M1.

Arnold

The town nestles between two large country parks. Gedling Country Park is easily accessible to the east, while a short trip northwest will land you at Best Country Park. There are plenty of green spaces within Arnold as well.

Situated 5 miles south of Nottingham, Ruddington is a charming village with a strong sense of community. A regular flow of buses makes it easy to get to Nottingham’s city centre, so it’s a viable spot for commuters. Ruddington is known as a very safe village that suits those looking for a slower pace of life, ideal for families with young children.
You’ll have no issue getting out into the countryside when you live here. The Rushcliffe Country Park is close by, too. Here you’ll be treated to 8km of walking paths and many play areas for children. As a quaint little village, Ruddington is light on shops. But you’re not far from Clifton, a much more built-up area.

Hucknall
Hucknall is another area just outside Nottingham that can present excellent value to house buyers. It’s a town 7 miles north of the city and has reliable transport links via bus, rail and tram.
